Vacancy - Events Co-ordinator
This could be YOUR opportunity to volunteer to help Speakeasier.
You may be the person that we are looking for, having the desire, commitment and enthusiasm to help people disadvantaged by the effects Multiple Sclerosis which has robbed them of their speech. It would be a rewarding prospect to build on Speakeasier’s fundraising successes by planning and co-ordinating various fundraising initiatives.
Experience of implementing fundraising activities in the volunteer sector is an obvious benefit, but not essential. Preference would be given to someone living in the Cheltenham area. However Speakeasier has a very successful network of volunteers providing support across the UK.
If you are interested in this opportunity please e-mail Speakeasier on speakeasier@blueyonder.co.uk or phone 01242 705681.
Foundation Lodge - Award
Speakeasier was delighted to be awarded a £500 donation from Foundation Lodge which will help fund a communication package for a client local to the Lodge.
First Speakeasier London Marathon entrant!
James Imrie, a 29 year old accountant living in London, is going to run the London Marathon with his sponsorship money going to Speakeasier. James is married to Anna whose step-mother has MS. James’s dad was a founding Trustee of Speakeasier.
Would you please help Speakeasier to help Susan from London by raising sponsorship for James? Cheltenham-educated James says to everyone “I’m really pleased to be able to focus all my efforts on helping Susan, but I’m relying on your help to achieve my target!”
Please download a sponsorship form or click on James’s “Just Giving” link http://www.justgiving.com/jamesimrie and do what you can to help James to reach his very ambitious £6000 target. The £6000 will pay for Susan’s desperately needed speech aid costing just that amount, and Speakeasier’s most equipment ever!
Speakeasier volunteer awarded MS Society star.
Amelia Taylor, one of Speakeasier's Client Liaison Officers, was absolutely
flabbergasted when, at the Cheltenham Branch's Christmas Dinner, she was
awarded the MS Society star in recognition of outstanding commitment and support. (Branches may award only one star in any
one year). Knowing Amelia's quiet modesty, the Society probably aren't even
aware of her work for Speakeasier!"
Amelia is such a worthy recipient because she always puts the needs of others before her own. No matter how rough she may be feeling, if she has promised to do something for one of her MS colleagues, whether it’s shopping, a visit or anything else, she can be relied upon to keep her promise. She’s such an angel, one of life’s very special people.
Amelia is one of eight volunteers, all of whom either have MS or care for someone with MS, who make up our vital Client Liaison Officer (CLO) team under the excellent leadership of Karen Silman our very capable CLO Coordinator. They keep in touch with our clients on a regular basis to make sure that their speech aids are functioning correctly, that ongoing support is given, plus feedback on any other information including reports of how much Speakeasier’s help has helped them!
